On December 18, 2002, Gaoming was combined into of Foshan City, currently the third biggest city in Guangdong province as a district together with places such as Nanhai and Shunde, which are just opposite the river.

To strengthen the connection between the districts, Foshan government is planning to invest 36 billion RMB for the construction of communication network called "4 Verticals, 9 Horizontals and 9 Inner Rings", 10 billion RMB for information network building. The "Large Foshan"consisting of Gaoming, Chancheng, Shunde, Nanhai and Sanshui is therefore emerged, and new vigor to this old city is generated. Foshan, is leading itself to be the new growth point in the economy in Pearl River Delta.

And Gaoming is facing a new historical development opportunity.
